Salad Greens – Rocket
$4.00
Rocket, also known as arugula or roquette, is a versatile and peppery leafy green that belongs to the Eruca sativa species. It is an annual plant that is widely cultivated for its nutritious leaves and pungent flavor. Rocket is well-suited for growing in Australian climates, especially during the cooler months. When
selecting a position for planting Rocket, choose a spot that receives full sun or partial shade. It can tolerate a range of soil types but prefers well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. A pH level between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for optimal growth. For spacing,
it is recommended to plant Rocket approximately 15 to 20 centimetres apart in rows that are spaced around 30 to 45 centimetres apart. This spacing allows the plants to develop into bushy and productive specimens, with ample space for their leaves to grow and thrive. The first
harvest of Rocket can typically be done when the leaves are young and tender, usually around 4 to 6 weeks after sowing. Harvesting can be done by snipping individual leaves or by cutting the entire plant near the base. Regular harvesting encourages new growth and prolongs the harvest period. To determine
the number of plants to grow, consider your desired yield and consumption. Planting several rows of Rocket can provide a continuous supply of fresh leaves. A general guideline is to plant around 10 to 15 plants per square meter, but you can adjust the quantity based on your needs and available space.
Rocket is prized for its distinctive and slightly spicy flavour, which adds a unique kick to salads, sandwiches, and other dishes. Its nutrient-packed leaves are rich in vitamins and minerals, making it a valuable addition to a healthy diet
