Mini Cos Lettuce, also known as Little Gem Lettuce, is a compact and petite variety of lettuce that is highly valued for its small, crisp leaves and sweet flavor. Its botanical name is Lactuca sativa. Mini Cos Lettuce is a leafy green plant and belongs to the Asteraceae family.
It thrives in a sunny position in the garden, preferably with partial shade in hotter regions. The soil should be well-drained and fertile, with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. When planting Mini Cos Lettuce, maintain a spacing of approximately 15-20 centimetres between each plant.
The first harvest can be expected in about 8-10 weeks after planting, once the leaves reach a suitable size. To ensure a continuous supply of fresh lettuce, it is recommended to plant new seeds or seedlings every two weeks. Mini Cos Lettuce is a popular choice for salad lovers and is ideal for small gardens or container gardening due to its compact size and quick growth.
